    Welcome to Amanda Olford's Wiki
I am a 3rd grade Math, Science, Social Studies Teacher at Cartersville Elementary in Cartersville, GA. This is my 10th year of teaching and my third in the state of Georgia. I am orginally from Pansacola, FL where I taught for 7 seven years. I have degrees in both Elementary Education and Special Education. I have taught self contain special needs classes, general education, and co-taught inclusion.
I was lucky enough to be one of eight teachers chosen by NASA to participate in their zero gravity simulator. I also had the honor of meeting and talking with Dr. Mae Jeminson.
I love to use technology in my classroom! I love to find creative and inexpensive ways to keep my students engaged while teaching my lessons. I have created virtual field trips to help students learn more in the science and social studies subject areas. I got my principal to let me use older laptops in my classroom and I created individualized one-to-one computing with the use of flashdrives.
At this moment I am working on a technology based classroom that will include teacher lead discusssion and many web based applications for hands on learning.
I am presenting thsi information at the GaETC November 3-5. Links to all the information I will discuss and share are following:
    Teacher Tools
Google Docs- You will need to sign up for am free account. You can create multiple choice and fill in the blank test that can be graded for you. This helps to creates a paperless classroom.
    Google Docs
Glogster-This is a great tool to create inactive poster for the classroom as well as a great tool to let students demonstrate understanding of a subject. I have used them as teaching posters. I have also assigned my students a project to create a poster that shows their understanding of subject in their own unique way.
    Glogster
National Library of Virtual Manipulatives- This is a great website where you can go to get wonderful math manipulatives that can become interactive on an interactive board.
    NLVM
Futures Channel- This is a great hands on math site. They provide videos on a job explaining how that job uses mat, then they have an activity that the students can do to put that skill to practice.
    Futures Channel
Internet4classrooms- This is a wonderful site to give you ways to help student learn and practice specific skills. I use this in my classroom mostly as remdiation for my struggling students loading games for them to play on flashdrives for the specific skill they need.
    internet4classrooms
Classjump- This is a wonderful easy to use class website creator. I have started using this site this year and my parents love it!
    Classjump
    Student Tools
Edomodo- This is a great social networking site that can be used as discussion board.
    Edomodo
Prezi- This is the web based presentation tool I showed. I love to have students create presentations using prezi.
    Prezi
IXL- This site allows you to use it free for 15 tries a day. You can use it with your students to help them learn math concepts and then quiz them with it.
    IXL
Great student tools that are not free but worth the price if you get them
Brainpop adn Brainpopjr- These are amazing interactive sites that have cute animated movies that help teach or better explain a subject. They come with comprehension quiz and activities to help students gain a deeper understanding of a subject.
    Brainpop
    Brainpop Jr
EducationCity- This is a great website that provides students with standards based interactive games to learn math and language. The program allowes students to complete interactive games on a skill and keeps track of their score.
